Research of the material utilization of the slags
The main research goal of WP1 is the increasing of the metallurgical slags utilization and enhancement of their usage as the valuable secondary by-products. The methods of the effective utilization of the slags are continuously studied and new ways of the slags utilization are proposed and verified. To reach the objective of WP1 following sub-tasks were defined:
Metallurgical recycling
- Evaluation of the suitability of the slags for the recycling in the metallurgy
- Proposition of the slag separation with respect to their subsequent utilization
- Methodology of the definition of the slags mixtures suitable for recycling
- Evaluation of the processes of the slag melting in the dedicated smelting units
Slags in the binding systems
- Selection of the slags for the Portland cements preparation
- Evaluation of the usability of the ladle slags in the process of the Portland cement preparation
- Utilization of the ladle slags´ binding properties within the process of their compacting
- Evaluation of the suitability of the slags for the preparation of the alkali activated binders and low-energy cements
- Preparation of the base binding mixtures
- Assessment of the volume stability of the slags
Research of the phase composition of the slags
- Searching of the reason for the volume instability of given type of the slag
- Assessment of the critical parameters of the slags with respect of their possible utilization as the foundation materials in building industry
